Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering with the Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo (ECOSLO) allows for the opportunity to join our team as we work to protect and advocate for the beautiful natural environment here in San Luis Obispo County. We have plenty of volunteer opportunities with varying levels of time commitment.

One-Time Volunteer Opportunities

Beach Keepers Monthly Beach Cleanup

What: Monthly beach cleanups through ECOSLO’s new “Beach Keepers” program

When: The first Saturday of every month, from 9am-11am

SLO County Parks Volunteer Projects

What: Volunteer projects in partnership with San Luis Obispo County Parks and Recreation Department.

When: Once a month, usually on a Saturday, ~3 hours

Coastal Cleanup Day

What: Coastal Cleanup Day is an International Coastal Cleanup held on the third Saturday of September.

When: September 15th, 2018 @ 9am-12pm

Seas to Trees Day

What: Join us for our second annual Seas to Trees Day! Choose one of six volunteer projects throughout San Luis Obispo County, from beach cleanups to tree plantings.

When: Spring 2019

Mid-Level Volunteer Opportunities


What: Represent ECOSLO at festivals, fairs, and other tabling events. Shifts are in two hour intervals

When: Check our calendar for upcoming dates.

Where: Various locations throughout SLO County. Check our calendar for dates and locations.

Cleanup Captain

What: Lead one of our monthly Beach Keepers beach cleanups or a Coastal Cleanup Day site.

When: Beach Keepers is the first Saturday of every month, Coastal Cleanup Day is September 15th, 2018. Shifts are approximately 4 hours long.

Long-Term Volunteer Opportunities



What: ECOSLO has 7 internship opportunities available throughout the year.

Where: Interns work remotely with one weekly meeting with the Executive Director.

When: Internships are available in 6-month increments.

SLO Stewards Docent

What: Lead educational hikes for all ages through the City of SLO open space.

Where: Open space in City of SLO.

When: Docent training takes place bi-yearly. View our calendar for upcoming dates.

Committee Member

What: ECOSLO has 4 board committees that need the help of community members to ensure their effectiveness. Current committees are: Advocacy, Fundraising, Marketing and Finance.
