Coastal Cleanup Day

September 17, 2016 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
30 sites throughout SLO County
Mary Ciesinski

The 32nd annual Coastal Cleanup Day event invites volunteers from our community to clean up trash and debris. Every year since 2005, ECOSLO coordinates beach cleanups from San Simeon to the Oso Flaco Lake. Even though Central Coast beaches are cleaner than some, last year we removed nearly 5,500 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches and lakes.

Volunteers are especially needed for the following sites:

  • Santa Margarita Lake
  • Estero Bluffs
  • Morro Strand Dog Beach / Toro Creek
  • Morro Strand North / State Beach Campground
  • Morro Bay Embarcadero / Tidelands Park
  • Lopez Lake

In California, Coastal Cleanup Day holds the distinction of drawing the most participation of any volunteer event over its thirty year history. As County Coordinator, ECOSLO works with the California Coastal Commission to bring out our community in the campaign for healthy coasts, shorelines, and oceans. Last year, 1,000 volunteers removed trash and recyclables from 30 beaches throughout San Luis Obispo County.

Check out our event page at and Facebook event page – feel free to share both and help spread the word.  We ask that you sign up online via the Google online form to help us anticipate supplies needed for each site.  Thank you and see you on September 17th!
