South Hills Trailhead directions:From Highway 101, exit on Madonna Road and head northeast for 1/4 of a mile to Higuera Street. Turn left and continue north for one black to South Street and turn right. Make the second right on to Exposition Drive after 1/3 of a mile. Continue a quarter mile to the Woodridge Trailhead on the right, just after an intersection with Corrida Drive where Exposition Drive becomes Woodbridge Street. Roadside parking is available.

About South Hills: The 580-foot summit of the South Hills provides excellent easy-to-reach views of San Luis Obispo. There is a perimeter loop trail touring the 133-acre South Hills Open Space, along with a ridge trail that provides a 1.5-mile round trip hike as it ascends 450 feet to the top of the green space just south of downtown San Luis Obispo.

ECOSLO Hike at Reservoir Canyon @ Reservoir Canyon

Join Evan for a hike at Reservoir Canyon. Hikes typically last 2-3 hours, dependent on pace of the group.

RESERVOIR CANYON Directions:

Take Highway 101 North from San Luis Obispo. About a mile past city limits, turn right on Reservoir Canyon Road. Trailhead is at the end of Reservoir Canyon Road. Park to the left.

About Reservoir Canyon: In one direction, great views from the ridge after a steep hike with rock steps and exposed hillsides; in the other, it’s a gentle walk in shade along the creek.

Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult
Elevation: 400-1,715 feet
Distance: 5.25 miles total
Estimated Time: ~3 hours w/ SLO Stewards docent
Area: 487 acres

Cerro San Luis Trailhead

To access Cerro San Luis Natural Reserve trailhead turn right onto Fernandez Road just before the southbound 101 Marsh Street on-ramp.

About Cerro San Luis: Commonly called Madonna Mountain, this is one of the volcanic “Seven Sisters,” with easy to moderate hiking trails.

SLO City Ranger Led Hike @ Islay Hill

Ranger led hikes are a great way to learn more about the open spaces you enjoy.  Rangers cover topics from flora and fauna to local history of open spaces.  These hikes are also a great way to get to know your local rangers and ask questions about the Ranger Service and responsible use of open space.  All Hikes meet at 1 pm and last from 1 – 3 hours.
